Piano Player

The Hutt Valley Gang Show are currently looking for a Rehearsal Accompanist to support our upcoming show, Lights, Camera, Action! Our cast is made up of 70+ Scouts and Guides aged 10 and up, providing many with their first experience of drama, singing and dancing in a theatre setting.

The music for this show is made up of c.12 popular songs arranged for large-group choral singing. Early rehearsals will focus on note learning, often by voice. Later rehearsals will focus on entrenching words and incorporating choreo. Please note: this is a voluntary position.

We are looking for some who:

- has strong piano and sight reading skills

- feels comfortable accompanying a chorus during rehearsals as they learn their notes and voice lines

- is available for Sunday afternoon rehearsals (with some flexibility)

- is keen to support kids' exposure to and learning music.

Preferable (though not required):

- has experience accompanying singers

- has some previous involvement with Scouting or Girl Guides.

Most rehearsals run from 1-5pm on Sundays in Belmont, Lower Hutt. The accompanist will only be required for some of that time (other times will focus on Drama and Choreo). Your commitment would be about 2 hours per week. You would also be required for specific times across the two camp weekends: 16/18 May and 25/27 July. These can be worked out with you.

The show orchestra will take over once the production moves into theatre on 9 August, and for the show run from 18-23 Aug.

What we can offer you:

- experience working in a very large cast production

- a welcoming music and production team environment

- some great music

- lots of laughter and joy!

In line with Scouting New Zealand policies, police checks are carried out for all people working in the show. This will be done for you with your consent.

It's hard to give a good flavour of the production in an ad, so if you're interested, please contact Eric Sidoti at music.huttvalleygangshow@gmail.com with a brief outline of your experience and with any questions.
