Attendance
The show is put together at rehearsals. We can’t do this is if some of the cast are missing. You will quickly see how impossible it is to practice any staging or choreography when even one person is absent. You are also bound to miss out on some words or actions if you’re not at rehearsal – that will mean that you will stick out like a sore thumb from the rest of the Gang on stage. Who wants that?
It is therefore important that you attend all rehearsals, camps, theatre rehearsals and the wardrobe fitting. This includes during the school holidays. We know this is a big ask and you and your family have other things that you need to do. But the simple reality is that we cannot put on a good show without everyone at rehearsals, and so you (and your family) need to make Gang Show a major priority over the next four months. If you think that you won’t be able to do this then you need to reconsider your involvement.
Attendance at the camps and the theatre rehearsals (for the whole duration) is absolutely compulsory. If you can’t attend, you really can’t be in the show.
If for some unavoidable reason you really do have to be away from a Sunday rehearsal, please tell Leigh (the cast admin) by email. If you can’t attend rehearsal at the last minute because you are ill, please call Leigh - 0273432495
Rehearsal rules
We’ve got an awful lot of work to get done, so we want to use our four hours each week constructively. Here are a few rules to achieve that:
- Arrive at least 10 minutes before rehearsals start. We don’t want to wait for people to arrive.
- When you arrive, immediately pick up your name tag from the name tag board and pin it on your chest so we can see it – this helps us to get to know you quickly. When leaving rehearsals return your name tag to its correct position on the board. Please do not interfere with anyone else’s name tag. The name tags are how we keep track of who is at rehearsal so it is very important that you follow this procedure.
- Do not leave rehearsal early unless you have permission from the Administration Director (Belinda). This is important for a number of reasons including our duty of care as leaders and your safety.
- Turn cell phones and other devices off while at rehearsals.
- Do not bring lollies, gum or sweets to rehearsals – apart from the mess they can create they also have a bad effect on your throat and your singing.
- Adults: no smoking or vaping in or near the rehearsal halls please (none for youth either!).
Rehearsal behavior
Gang Show is fun and exciting but rehearsals can become very noisy. This is tough on the people who are trying to rehearse and makes people cranky. So please behave professionally at rehearsals:
- Concentrate on the work at hand. Watch the Musical Director when you are singing. Listen carefully when Production Team members give instructions.
- Sit quietly (or go outside) if you are not involved in the item being rehearsed.
- Move quickly and quietly to rehearsal locations when asked to do so.
- Follow the instructions and requests of the Cast Leaders and other adults.
Remember, you are part of the Gang Show Troop, and the law of our troop is the Scout and Guide Law.
Learning your words
You need to learn your words as soon as possible, so we can concentrate on the movements. You will be told during rehearsals when scripts are not to be used for a particular item. You must memorise your words by those dates. The best way to learn your words is to say (or sing) them over and over. If you are learning the words for a sketch, get someone at home to read the other parts for you so that you can also learn your cues (the line before yours).
